Rayyan Khalid lost out in a hard fought semi-final in the cadet boys against Aberdeen’s Louis Loi.
Zaid Khalid Defeated Gautam Kakar in the group stage of the junior boys and followed this up with a hard fought victory against Charlie Morton in the Quarter Finals. In the Semi Final Zaid lost out to his British League teammate and number 1 seed, Dylan Curry (3-1) who went on to win the National title.
Aaron Richardson progressed through his group in the junior boys losing out to Harvey McDonald from South Ayrshire in the Last 16 round.
Paula Callaghan reached the semi final of the junior girls with wins against Holly McNamara, Naomi Provan and Amelia Norbury. However in the semi final, Tessa Yau of Aberdeen got her revenge after losing to Paula in the Women’s Singles group stages.

Paula Callaghan upset the seedings in the Women’s Singles event. Firstly she defeated Tessa Yau and continued with winning a 5 set thriller against teammate Alisa Khalid. This was followed up with a hard fought 5 setter against Holly McNamara before losing out to experienced Lara Stirling in the final match of the group stages. Paula then faced current Scottish Champion, Rebecca Plaistow of South Ayrshire who was too strong but it was a great result for Paula to reach her first Semi Final of the Women’s event at Scottish National Championships.
Yaser Razouk came through top of group 4 with victories over Charlie Morton, Andrew Breen and Mark Lundberg. In the last 16 stage, Yaser faces club-mate, Zaid Khalid, winning 3-0. This was then followed up with an excellent win over a well experienced Chris Main of North Ayrshire, 3-1. However Yaser’s run came to an end against current Scottish Champion, Gavin Rumgay.
Zaid Khalid came through as runner up in group 2 of the men’s draw with wins against Andrew McRae and Ryan Docherty before losing out to number 2 seed, Colin Dalgleish. Zaid’s run came to an end in the Last 16 against teammate Yaser Razouk.
Paula Callaghan and Dylan Curry continued their good form from last years European Youth Championships, reaching the final of the Mixed Doubles losing out to current champions Rebecca Plaistow and Colin Dalgleish.
Alisa Khalid and Faye Leggett defeated Paula Callaghan and Amelia Norbury in the Semi Final of the Women’s Doubles event. Alisa and Faye lost out to Rebecca Plaistow and Lara Stirling in the Final.
Yaser Razouk and Keir Morton won their first Men’s Doubles National Title with wins over Gautam Kakar/Charlie Morton in the Quarter Final stage. This was then followed up with a hard fought victory over Danny Bajwa/Martin Johnson. In the final the pair defeated Calum Morrison/Niall Cameron.
Well done to all the other players who competed this weekend, we hope to see them progress further at the 2020 Scottish National Championships!
